John James, M.D.
CEO
John is a family practice physician who gave up medicine to pursue his love of entrepreneurship. John paid for medical school with his first ecommerce company, a quiz bowl question business he founded in 1995.
He is a serial entrepreneur who has built and sold multiple businesses centered around search engine marketing. Previous ventures included a keyword arbitrage business, a multichannel niche retailer, and a hyperlocal online media company.
Terry Turpin, J.D.
COO
Terry is a former attorney turned entrepreneur.
Before co-founding Acumen Brands, Terry was a partner in ThompsonMurray, a shopper marketing agency. He oversaw the growth of the company from three people until its sale to Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi in 2004. Turpin continued as COO of Saatchi & Saatchi X, the retail marketing division of Publicis, until 2007.
David Echegoyen
CMO
David (“Ech”) is our multilingual global citizen. Originally from El Salvador, David has worked with some of the world’s leading brands (Procter & Gamble, LG, Walmart, and Samsung) in several countries (US, UK, France, Mexico and South Korea). His marketing assignments have ranged from launching new products and redesigning store formats to creating go-to market strategies in developing nations. Throughout the last decade, he has become an expert at solving business problems while leading multi-functional teams to deliver great work.
Chuck Browning
CFO
Chuck joined Acumen in the spring of 2012. He caught the entrepreneurial spirit when he helped launch an investment bank, Capital USA, with Alice Walton (daughter of Walmart founder, Sam Walton). This success led to several other start-up ventures that resulted in a sale to a publicly traded international company and the others are today sustainable companies with solid business models.
Jim Kane
CTO
Jim Kane is the Chief Technology Officer at Acumen Holdings. He previously held similar positions at Egora Group and at NIC USA’s Arkansas division.
Jim has worked on just about everything that has anything to do with running a website, including application development, network and system administration, and backend system integration projects. He still gets a kick out of seeing a well-built system that “just works.”
Jim received his BS in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1996, and shortly after his departure the entire CSEG major was dissolved. Coincidence?
